We would never proceed with any publicity without Jo's approval so if Jo has the same concerns as you then we would obviously respect that. Lots of people with disabilities fundraise, as a way of turning what could be seen as a negative into a positive, and receive publicity for what they do which is great as it raises awareness and well earned respect for showing that having a disability doesn't mean that you cannot carry on doing things you want to do. There will always be 'snoopers' and always have been but they are in a minority. Without publicity we cannot raise awareness of RA and the work we do to support people with RA and from the publicity comes further support and funds raised which we need to ensure we can continue to survive. Without fundraising NRAS would not be able to continue and without telling people what we do we won't build that fundraiser base.

Pleased to hear you would check out with ANYONE before publisising them in newspapers.

There is food for thought in what Jean pointed out.
We know how important it is for NRAS to raise funds, and we also know it's good to see that having a disability doesn't mean we can't do the things we want to do, but the DWP are not so liberal minded so we need to be very careful with the publicity. Especially in the present climate when they are quick to clamp down on anyone who is claiming DLA.
This is not a criticism against NRAS, just a friendly reminder to take care.

I agree with both Jean and Doreen. It is not 'snoopers' but DWP to be aware of. Well done to Jo in her efforts for the cause but it must not be at risk of losing benefits.
Publicity is a risk.

Sorry to announce that due to new problems caused by my RA, I've been advised not to take part in my planned abseil on October 6th at Walsall Art gallery.

I've always had advice from my rheumatologist and orthopaedic surgeon before each one to be on the safe side.

So for the moment it looks like my mad abseiling antics are on hold for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to thank everyone for all their support over the years I've been doing them, it's been wonderful raising money and challenging myself with something I've always enjoyed doing.

So sorry that you're not going to be able to do your abseil Jo, and we all wish you well with getting over the latest RA problems.
If you fancy something a bit more sedate you could always sign up for the Knit Factor we have just launched! Not quite the same thrill as abseiling I know but...!

Sad hello Jo
Sorry your ra has stopped you doing something you are pasionate about doing, and raise money for nras.
Take care of yourself.

Dwp
I have just read top of page two down, I'm shocked that 'snoopers' and dwo spy on people. Really?! This is a charity, it is so so sad to have people doing that.
I don't claim money from anywhere, I still have a job.
I wouldn't not dream of bubbling anyone up about anything.....does it mean 'snoopers' could of signed up here? I'm just shocked.
We are here because of ra, I'm disgusted to think people could be snooping or delving into peoples things.

The good thing is, euro millions draw (huge win) tonite and lotto draw tomorrow (huge win again). If I won pennies, I'd happily give pennies to nras.
Keep the guys in a job so I can enjoy their tweets on twitter and joining up with you all (not the snoopers).

Hi Jo - sorry to hear that you're not able to do the abseil - you sound like you've done some fun things for your fund raising and I look forward to hearing more ideas in the future.

Take care - Sylvia xx

Jane....... I'm pretty sure everyone on here is genuine. It's just that you do get people who "shop" their neighbours etc. so just need to be careful. I don't think anyone would pay to sign up on here just to snoop, and it's a closed forum so only us can see what's on here.
